metáfora y materia: proposal for the el eco 2023 pavilion competition
Abstract
Located in Mexico City, the Museo Experimental El Eco has hosted a program of temporary architectural interventions in its courtyard since 2010, as part of its exhibition program. In this latest edition (2023), 172 portfolios were submitted through an open call, with the technical committee selecting seven teams for participation. Inaugurated in 1953, Mathias Goeritz seized the opportunity to declare the Emotional Architecture Manifesto. The museum was envisioned as a space for exhibitions and the integration of art and architecture. The curator for this edition was architect Gabriela Carrillo, whose pavilion’s theme was “Zero Time: a reflection on time, the Anthropocene, and tangential resistance” (Tempo Zero: uma reflexão sobre o tempo, o Antropoceno e a resistência tangencial). The curator addresses issues such as the production and consumption model as causes of the climate crisis and nature’s destruction, taking time, crisis, and playfulness as starting points to call for exercises that transform spaces and question our ways of living. Metáfora y materia was our proposal for the Pabellón Eco 2023 competition.
