The oldest port in Lima, Chorrillos is located at the southern end of the Bay of Lima, protected from the Humboldt current, which gives it the status of a natural port. As the port of Callao, at the northern end of the Bay, developed as the main port of Lima, that of Chorrillos remained throughout history as an artisanal port. Barclay & Crousse’s proposal for the architecture competition organized by the Municipality of Chorrillos in 2017 focuses on creating an infrastructure that solves the multiple flows and functions of bathers, tourists, fishermen, boat traffic, sellers and market buyers, enabling the possibility of appropriation by all of them with structures that are added to the base infrastructure. Thus, the proposed infrastructure works as a great threshold that separates the road from the beach, defining and enhancing the space of the cove so that the different activities can take place in complete safety and tranquility. The structure is conceived in concrete, composed of cruciform columns to reinforce its anti-seismic quality, and a visible casing reminds of fishing nets.
