Abstract

The Suma Qalltan?a project, located in the Achumani area of the city of La Paz in Bolivia, comes from the idea of providing the city with a space that responds to urban needs of its inhabitants, proposing a suitable way to fully achieve objectives of a new model of sustainable urban development. We defend a project with an ecological approach, in which the growth of the city is directly connected with nature, transforming the space into an opportunity for cultivation, fauna, and flora, which have been threatened over time, thus enhancing the protection of our environment. The purpose of the project is to work based on the interrelation of architecture and urban space, prioritizing inclusivity, integration, and respect for all living beings through green areas, planning of public spaces, good connectivity between areas, and generating pleasant spaces for people of all ages. The project also seeks to make people own the space and integrate everything into a large community that lives and expresses itself in harmony with its surroundings. Urban spaces must be humanized, in a way that people are the complement of architecture, and not architecture the complement of people.
