Adaptation and Migration: Design for the 21st Century Waterfront

Abstract

Closing the dossier “Challenges and possibilities of water in the construction of territories” – which, based on discussions in the postgraduate courses at Escola da Cidade, poses questions for the critical debate of the theme – we have the proposal of DLANDStudio for coastal areas of the city of New York, a project that considers urbanization, infrastructure and urban design on an extended time scale for the future, posing the provocation, but also demonstrating the possibility (and to a large extent the need) of intervention in a consolidated territory, with a view to coexisting with climate change and advancing waters.
