Interview Cildo Meireles: The Nature of the Brazilian Space

Abstract

Opening the dossier “Atlantic: Transits, Memories and Perspectives” – which, based on discussions in the graduate courses at Escola da Cidade, poses questions for the critical debate of past, present and future relations between America, Africa and Iberian Peninsula – Diego Moreira Matos interviews Cildo Meireles. The artist talks about how some of the defining issues of the Brazilian territory as part of the American continent marked his reflections; in addition to discussing works such as “Olvido”, “Missão/Missões (how to build cathedrals)” and “Amerikkka”, among others.
