Parte do dossiê “Civilização América”, que buscou por múltiplos enfoques (da leitura gráfica do território, desenho e projeto à abordagem histórica, teórica e conceitual) investigar os sentidos que esse recorte possui na constituição da pós-graduação na Escola da Cidade, o ensaio argumenta a favor da construção de bases epistemológicas que permitiriam a leitura do território americano em uma perspectiva menos eurocêntrica. Busca assim destacar autores que formataram nossa maneira de ler os espaços, evidencia os apagamentos que tais leituras podem suscitar e aponta outros autores cujas visões poderiam fundamentar novas possibilidades.
