Artificial urbanization

Abstract

The image records presented here seek to investigate user interactions, as well as uses of the city's platforms and geoprocessing tools, to construct its landscapes, even if artificial. The aim is to mirror a reality and tension what is represented as city or landscape by Google Earth. All photographs presented were taken by the author and are records of interventions carried out by the users of this interface. There are houses, buildings, trees, streets, sidewalks, bridges, buildings under construction, maintenance of urban infrastructures, cities as a whole, which are inserted in artificial urban contexts that Google Earth does not want to build. More than a mere survey of gelatinous buildings, as those we can observe when accessing the city of São Paulo and other central regions, the photographs presented are records of the outskirts, countryside cities, and/or regions with little interest in the market. In these places, it is up to residents to insert their own homes and contractors to certify their landscapes. After all, in the contemporary world, being on the internet is somehow certifying existence.
